Fantasy Waterworld by FantasyPaul Fantasy Waterworld by FantasyPaul
One of my earlier work, done from 1993 to 1994.

Tools I used:

Pencil and a lot of Color Pencils
Format A2

What it is? I think you will need to use your imagination ;)

The first thing I did (as I do with any picture I critique) is look at it in full view. In the case of this picture, I would suggest you disable full-view, if that's possible. I think there's a way of doing it, but I've never felt the need to do it. It looks a LOT worse in full-view and the coloring looks very grainy. Or simply resize the picture so the full-view picture is smaller. Now onto the good part.

Normally I list the good things first, but this time it made sense to list the bad first. The amount of effort you put into this piece really shows; it's easy to believe you spent half a year on this. How big is the original? Also, I love all the intricate details in the picture, especially in the water and on the light green...thing...behind it, which I have no idea what it's supposed to be.
What do you think?

an impresive bit of work there. The motive running through both the pieces you posted is interesting, the first shows almost a fear of the "female flower" where as this one treats the subject with a bit more reverance, like its a force of nature, hey i could be way off but thats what i see.
anyway both show brilliant technique, and make cool abstract landscapes.

I like the detail you have put into this. Where did you get the idea for Fantasy Waterworld?

That is a good question... I don't really know, most of my inspiration comes from books (I read a lot) or movies, and the rest is just my creativity... at least I hope so ;)

Well, upfront on the right is a tree, and a dead one on its left. There are more trees in the backround smoke rising up into the sky.

Niiice composition. I LOVE the way you coloured it with tons of teeny tiny scribbles of different colours to create (from a distance) one, central colour. Great work!!

Great job! I'm amazed that you colored this entire piece using little loops (I forget what the technical term is ^^;) I love the colors too, they look so iridiscent.

this is the most intriguing piece of work ive seen in a long while, and certainly unique! Its up to the viewer to guess what it is? bonus. im guessing its a dream-like abstraction of a beach scene. I love the technique of different pencil colours youve used on this, especially on the liquidy bit. Just how long did it take you to do this exactly?

Hi, thank you very much for that comment.
Well, it depends from picture to picture... mostly it takes me about half a year or more to finish, due to work, private life and other projects.

Hi Paul. =)
Your style is really unique and the textures you create are truly amazing. I think this picture is my favorite so far; for some reason it makes me think of something peaceful and living its own sophisticated life at the same time.

Its amazingly creative:) Just one thing: people will be able to see it better if you changed the size of the picture by going to Edit Deviation and changing the size
;)
Still, it is really beautiful:)
