Fantasy Monstrosity by FantasyPaul Fantasy Monstrosity by FantasyPaul
This was done after the "original" artwork from me done in the 1990's was stolen at an exhibiton :(

Anyway, I like this second version much better, colors turned out pretty good.

Format: A2
Pencils / Color Pencils used

What this is? Try to imagine... :)

I enjoy it conceptually, i can tell you have a vision, although i'm left with a sense of wanting more out of this. Don't be afraid to really get in there and blend those colors together! Colored pencil works in layers, if your going to shade with these and use lighting to place cast shadows, you must go all the way; this will really polish and give your abstract creations life. Its a fact, this shit takes time! Put down multiple soft layers, then burnish it with a white or softer color, you have to build up a foundation of color before you can blend them. Watch out for 'wax-bloom'. Research all possible techniques, read as much shit about it as you can, then combine all that knowledge into your own technique. Information is waiting everywhere, libraries, internet, people; you just have to find it.

It would be wild to see this rendered realisticlly, since its organic and believable. We all love to see crazy awesome monstrosities, but rarely are we convinced they are actually standing in front of us. If this is not the effect you are going for you might consider different media, colored pencil can take some motivation.

If your not already, use Prismacolors, they have a great 'waxy' quality that's one-of-a-kind. needs background definition. drop the watermark, it's corny/amatuer/distracting, show the viewer who you really are through your work! draw draw draw everything, the more your brain knows what plant-life looks like, the more it will turn up in your work. Spend time on your craft and you'll go far! i like!

 Nice blending of colors. I'm seeing some seamless transitions of reds, yellows, greens...It's all very appealing.

I'm particularly fond of the twisted feet and how they form into the ground and branch off. An interesting concept of a snarling beast seemingly trapped by the earth that spawned it. Your work allows me the freedom of mind to roam around, more than I usually see, which is very nice indeed.

Similar to my last critique, harder contrast would have done wonders in establishing a firmer sense of place. Heavy shadows, reflected light, more texture...Without this, this piece seems almost false. You have a sense of detail. Now to give it ground to walk upon with more realistic rendering.

More studies from nature, I think, will help breathe more life and general punch into your art. :)

I suspect this monster to be a kind of God of the Earth and he goes out his hole to punish us! One thing is sure: this is a great work!

I'd be kind of flattered if people went around stealing my art.
